Astrolabio, the first Euro-Mediterranean documentary market in Rome

The Suttvuess Cooperative, which operates in the audiovisual production and post-production field, in collaboration with Doc.it and The Look of Handala Association, is organizing “Astrolabio.doc”, the inaugural Europe-Middle East documentary market to be held between 4-7 October 2007 in Rome.
The aim of the initiative is to create a space where mediation and exchanges between Europe and Middle East can grow, new ideas and projects can be conceived and new collaborative relationships can emerge. The intention is to provide an opportunity for real and effective intercultural dialogue rather than an exclusively commercially-oriented event.
“Astrolabio.doc” is the product of a collaboration which began in 2002, when the first instalment of “The Look of Handala”, a review of documentaries dedicated to Middle-Eastern issues, was held. Now in its fifth year, the review represents a forum for intense research and collaboration with Middle Eastern producers and authors.
From 2007 onwards, the Suttvuess Cooperative and The Look of Handala Association have decided to create a larger space for exchange by setting up a documentary market specifically dedicated to the Middle East. “Astrolabio.doc” is divided into two parts: a documentary festival similar to an industry trade fair and a professional market for the development, sale and co-production of documentary projects.
“Astrolabio.doc” will take place at the Rome’s new exhibition centre, Nuova Fiera di Roma, one of Europe's major trade fair venues. Broadcasters, distributors, producers, institutional bodies and other interested parties will have the opportunity to set up exhibition stands at the fair by completing and submitting a registration form available at: Download Expositor Kit.
The market aims to create co-production and distribution links between the European and Middle-Eastern documentary world. To this end, projects will be discussed by European and Middle Eastern professionals with the aim of concluding agreements for production, co-production and distribution. The market will be divided into two sections: face-to-face meetings and pitching sessions.
