Gone with The Woman in the race

Petter Næss’s wry comedy Gone with the Woman [+see also:

has been selected as Norway’s candidate at the 2008 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The film opens tomorrow with 71 prints, a wide release for Norway orchestrated by SF Norge. Næss has already attended the glamorous Hollywood ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles for Elling which was nominated in 2002. In Gone with the Woman, the filmmaker takes a humorous look at male/female relationships through the story of He (the unforgettableTrond Fausa Aursvåg from The Bothersome Man [+see also:

), a gentle man who lets himself being totally invaded by a woman (Marian Saastad Ottesen).

Following its launch at the last Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, Gone with the Woman will have its international premiere in Toronto this weekend attended by Næss, star actor Peter Stormare (who has a secondary but crucial role in the film), and producer Olav Øen from Monster Film. Internatioal sales are handled by Svensk Filmindustri.

This year’s Norwegian Oscar committee comprised the head of the Norwegian Film Institute’s international department Jan Erik Holst, film reviewer Vibeke Johnsen, filmmaker Erik Poppe and producer Jørgen Storm Rosenberg (The Bothersome Man). The Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 22 and the 80th Oscars ceremony in Hollywood will take place on February 24, 2008.
