Successful summer season for releases

After an excellent July, which saw admissions increase 57.8% over the previous year (thanks to blockbusters), August has not disappointed either, with admissions in France totalling 16.47m cinemagoers, a 9.7% rise over August 2006 according to statistics published by the Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC).

In total, admissions for the first eight months of this year stand at €126.84m, down slightly by 1% compared to the same period last year.

The last three months, which saw a rise in admissions, have most benefited US productions, which have seen their market share reach 51.3% since the beginning of the year against 48.4% over the eight months of 2006. French films attracted 36% of filmgoers from January 1 to August 31, 2007 (41.4% over the same period in 2006).

In current box-office figures, Michel Boujenah’s comedy 3 Amis [+see also:

has garnered 563,000 admissions after its third week on screens (distribution by Gaumont), while Anne Le Ny’s Ceux qui restent [+see also:
