, has been selected by Finland as its submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.

A Man’s Job was preferred by the Finnish Oscar jury over 10 other local feature films for the following reasons: “A Man´s Job is a balanced film with talented acting as well as good story and dialogue. The visual world is consistent with the script and makes the audience really live with the story. The story is not black and white and its tragicomic aspects support its themes”.

The film about a man (Tommi Korpela) who becomes a male escort to support his family was launched internationally at the latest Rotterdam international Film Festival and won the Golden Moon at the Cinema Jove Festival in Valencia (Spain) last June.

Released domestically by Sandrew Metronome in February, A Man’s Job is the fourth most popular local title of 2007, and MDC International has sold it to half a dozen territories, including Denmark, Germany, Poland and Spain.

The film is also a contender for the European Film Award nominations and the 2007 Nordic Council Film Prize (see news).

The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22, 2008, and the 80th Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles will take place on February 24.
