Two co-productions get FFF support

The Finnish Film Foundation has awarded a total of €75,000 to two Finnish co-productions: I Was Here by the Estonian filmmaker Rene Vilbre (Mat the Cat) and Cross Dates by Romania’s Anca Damian.

Currently shooting, I was Here is produced by Estonia’s most established producer, Riina Sildos (Amrion Production), in co-production with Finland’s Aleksi Bardy (Helsinki Filmi), from a script by Ilmar Raag (director of The Class [+see also:

) in collaboration with Bardy.

The film tells the story of a poor student in an elite school who is dragged into drug trafficking but tries to get out of it. Cast members include Rasmus Kaljujärv, Marilyn Jyrman, Tambet Tuisk and Markku Peltola. The €600,000 film was co-financed by Channel Four Finland and ETV in Estonia. The domestic premiere is set for the autumn 2008.

Cross Dates is produced in Romania by Tudor Giurgiu (Libra Film Productions) in co-production with Finland’s Kaarle Aho (Making Movies). Written and directed by Anca Damian, the film starring Mimi Branescu, Oxana Moravec and Matti Tistinen focuses on three encounters during two days in Bucharest.

Co-financing for the €570,000 film was provided by YLE TV1 in Finland. The delivery date is set for February 2008.
