by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud (see Focus) won the Jury Prize at Cannes this year and is the French hopeful in the race for the Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Inspired by Satrapi’s autobiographical comic book, the film is distributed by Prokino.

With Meine schöne Bescherung (“My Beautiful Christmas Eve”), Vanessa Jopp instead tries her hand at a festive comedy, in which Christmas turns to disaster for a married couple (Martina Gedeck and Heino Ferch) who come up with the bizarre idea of celebrating Christmas with all their ex-partners. Produced in Cologne by X-Filme Creative Pool, the title is distributed by X Verleih.

Universal is releasing European comedy Tell by Mike Eschmann, a German/Swiss/Austrian co-production retracing the adventures of William Tell and starring Mike Müller and Christian Tramitz.

NFP is distributing the animated film Happily N' Ever After by Paul Bolger and Yvette Kaplan (a German/US co-production) and The Whipping Boy (1994) by Sidney Macartney, re-released by Alpha Medienkontor.
