A DIAGONALE weekend of cinema

DIAGONALE, the network of Arthouse and Experimental Cinemas in French-speaking Belgium, is launching a new initiative entitled "DIAGONALE Weekend". The nine cinemas belonging to the network (in Mons, Liège, Namur, Charleroi and Brussels) are offering admission prices of €2 for all screenings during the weekend of November 24-25.

Member cinemas are also hosting special screenings of Belgian shorts, various animated films and several celebrated avant-premières, such as Cristian Nemuscu’s California Dreamin’ [+see also:

With a budget of €100,000 granted by the Communauté française and renewed annually for five years, the network, launched in November 2006 (see news) with a promotional initiative for Aki Kaurismakï’s Lights in the Dusk [+see also:

, models itself on its French counterpart AFCAE (French Association of Arthouse and Experimental Cinemas) and groups together French-speaking Belgium’s Arthouse and Experimental Cinemas, under threat from the rise of multiplexes.

The project was initiated and finalised by the late Secretary General of Belgium’s Communauté française, Henri Ingberg, who saw it as an excellent means of distributing and promoting arthouse and experimental films.
