Mungiu’s 4 Months picks up 2 Bronze Horses

The awards ceremony of the 18th Stockholm International Film Festival, held last Saturday night, was another triumphal evening for Cristian Mungiu’s Palme d’Or-winning film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days [+see also:

, which added two Bronze Horses – for Best Film and Best Actress (Anamaria Marinca) – to an already long list of international awards.

The jury issued the following statement: “This brilliant film expresses the impact of societal repression on its characters with honesty and devastating humanity. Every aspect of the film – script, photography, performances and most importantly direction – uncovers profound truth in the smallest gestures. With its opinionated use of long takes and off-screen space, Cristian Mungiu understands the power of simplicity.”

4 Months opened in Denmark on November 16 through Angel Films. It will be released by NonStop Entertainment on November 30 in five Swedish cities and in Norway on December 26 by Arthaus Distribution.
