by

The Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing is offering a new training programme for documentary filmmakers, entitled Jerusalem, Warsaw, Cologne: A three-way dialogue.

Three film schools – Andrzej Wajda Master School in Warsaw, IFS International Filmschule in Cologne and Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem – have launched a training programme involving the direction of three 30-minute films, intended for their students and graduates.

To help them gather material for their documentaries, the Polish, German and Israeli participants have the opportunity to take part in research trips and attend workshops, organised in the three cities.

At the end of the training programme, the participants will have produced six 30-minute documentaries and three of them will be selected (one per country) and put together to form a feature-length documentary. Industry professionals, directors and film theorists will help participants to develop their projects.

Polish directors Andrzej Titkow and Joanna Krauze will offer their knowledge and expertise.

The first participants in the programme (Paweł Ferdek, Lesław Dobrucki and Piotr Rosołowski) have just completed their research as part of the workshop in Jerusalem. The next workshop will be held in July 2008 at the Wajda Master School in Warsaw and the final workshop in autumn 2008 in Cologne.

The organisers do not decide upon the subject matter. Participants are invited to observe contemporary society and its transformations in the three countries in question and to let their imagination be inspired.

The training programme is sponsored by the Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen, and supported by the Stiftung für Deutsch-Polnische Zusammenarbeit.
