BOX OFFICE UK

Record breaking 2007

by

The UK had a record box office 2007 with collections over £904m, according to Nielsen EDI data. In addition, admissions jumped 11.5% with estimated ticket sales of 175 million, up from 157 million in 2006.

As reported earlier, the latest Harry Potter film led the way with over £49m. The Nielsen data also revealed that a record 23 films crossed £10m in revenues and a record 10 films crossed £20m.

Nick King, Nielsen’s President, International said, “The wet summer weather helped to boost ticket sales, along with the absence of major sporting events competing for the audience’s attention, such as the football World Cup or Olympic Games. 2007 has proved once again that audiences still love a night out at the pictures.”
