Audrey Estrougo’s Ain’t Scared in Forum

The adventure continues for young director Audrey Estrougo, (24) whose debut feature Ain’t Scared has been selected for the Forum section at the forthcoming Berlinale (February 7-17).

The film explores the discontent of youngsters in the suburban housing estates and the violence that reigns there between ethnic communities and between men and women (see news).

Produced by 7e Apache Films, the title was made on a budget of €2.16m, including €380,000 in advances on receipts from the National Centre for Cinematography (CNC) and a pre-sale from Canal+.

Ain’t Scared was released in theatres on September 26 by its co-producer and international sales agent Gaumont.

Another noteworthy title on the Forum line-up is French/Belgian co-production Le premier venu (“The First to Arrive”) by Jacques Doillon (€1.5m budget including €200,000 in financial support from France 3 Cinéma – see news), sold by Pyramide.

The 36 films screening in competition also include French/Egyptian documentary Mafrouza/Heart by Emmanuelle Demoris; and El Camino (“The Path”) by Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez, a co-production between Costa Rica and France (Gedeon Programmes).
