Documentaries in spotlight at Soleure Film Days

by Samuel and Frédéric Guillaume will open the 43rd Soleure Film Days, which will be held from January 21-27.

Acting as a showcase for national productions – whose market share was almost 10% in 2006 and 6% in 2007 – the festival is this year hosting a panorama of 263 feature and shorts, with a line-up dominated by documentaries.

The most eagerly-awaited titles include Hidden Heart by Cristina Karrer and Werner Swiss Schweizer; Bird’s Nest - Herzog & de Meuron in China by Christoph Schaub and Michael Schindhelm; Paolo Poloni’s Salonica and Felix Tissi’s Desert - Who Is The Man? .

Feature films are not entirely overshadowed however, as the programme also includes Lukas Erni’s Save Angel Hope, Simon Edelstein’s Quelques jours avant la nuit ("A Few Days Before Night"); Mohamed Soudani’s Roulette, Jacqueline Falk’s Geld oder Leben and Silvio Soldini’s Days and Clouds [+see also:

Special homage will also be paid to the Swiss German actor Walo Lüönd (The Swissmakers), who hosts the traditional retrospective.

The 11th Swiss Film Awards ceremony will be held on January 23 at Soleure. Fifteen films, five screenplays and 11 actors are vying for the new Quartz trophies, to be awarded by the jury presided by Swiss actress Marthe Keller (see news).
