TF1 International’s market gems

Spike Lee, Francis Veber, Tran Anh Hung and Bertrand Tavernier are among the filmmakers showcased in TF1 International’s line-up for the film market of the 58th Berlinale (February 7-17), auguring well for business.

The team headed by Nicolas Eschbach will be looking for success with Francis Veber’s latest project L'Emmerdeur (“Damned Nuisance”), starring Richard Berry and Patrick Timsit who will play the roles of the contract killer and his clinging, suicidal hotel room neighbour (played by Lino Ventura and Jacques Brel in the 1973 version).

The first scenes will be unveiled from French/Spanish co-production I Come with the Rain by Tran Anh Hung (Cyclo, The Scent of Green Papaya), starring Josh Hartnett.

A promotional reel will also be presented for Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire’s Johnny Mad Dog, which traces the misfortunes of two child soldiers in Africa.

Noteworthy titles in post-production include US/Italian co-production Miracle at St. Anna by Spike Lee; Bertrand Tavernier’s In the Electric Mist, starring Tommy Lee Jones; Eric Besnard’s Ca$h, starring Jean Reno, Jean Dujardin and Valeria Golino (see news); Frédéric Berthe’s Nos 18 Ans (“When We Were 18”, a remake of the successful Italian film Night Before Exams [+see also:

); fantasy film Mutants by David Morley; and Philippe Harel’s comedy Les randonneurs à Saint Tropez (“Walkers in Saint Tropez”), starring Karin Viard, Géraldine Pailhas and Benoît Poelvoorde.

Market screenings include Jean-Paul Salomé’s Female Agents with its European cast (Sophie Marceau, Julie Depardieu, Marie Gillain, Maya Sansa, Déborah François, Moritz Bleibtreu and Volker Bruch – see news); and Tonie Marshall’s Passe passe (“Sleight of Hand”), starring Nathalie Baye and Edouard Baer (see news).
