La Vie En Rose and Atonement dominate BAFTAs

Acclaimed French film La Vie en Rose [+see also:

, directed by Olivier Dahan, led the way at the BAFTAs, sweeping four of the coveted awards. Marion Cotillard won the Leading Actress award for her stunning portrayal of Edith Piaf in the film.

The film also won awards for Music (Christopher Gunning), Costume Design (awarded posthumously to Marit Allen) and Make Up & Hair (Jan Archibald/Didier Lavergne).

British cinema too fared well at the awards with Atonement [+see also:

picking up a brace of awards for Best Film and Production Design (Sarah Greenwood/Katie Spencer). Shane MeadowsThis Is England [+see also:

won the Best British Film award.

Daniel Day Lewis won the Leading Actor award (There Will Be Blood) and Tilda Swinton Supporting Actress (Michael Clayton) while Spanish icon Javier Bardem won the Supporting Actor award (No Country for Old Men).

The Carl Foreman award for Special Achievement by a British Director, Writer or Producer for their First Feature Film went to Control [+see also:

writer Matt Greenhalgh.

Anthony Hopkins was bestowed the Academy Fellowship and property master Barry Wilkinson won the Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema award.
