Hamer’s O’Horten wins four Canon awards

The Norwegian film industry’s yearly Canon Awards, given out last Tuesday evening during the closing evening of the Kosmorama Film Festival in Tronheim, celebrated Bent Hamer’s O’Horten [+see also:

, which received four awards.

The film won Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Trond-Viggo Torgensen), Best Music (John Erik Kaada) and, most surprisingly for a filmmaker who made his first film Eggs in 1995, Best New Creator.

Petter Næss’ comedy Gone With the Woman [+see also:

and Marius Holst’s Mirush [+see also:

won three Canons each. The former picked up Best Actor (Trond Fausa Aurvåg), Best Actress (Marian Saastad Ottesen) and Best Editing (Inge-Lise Langfeldt) while the latter walked away with Best Director, Best Cinematography (John Andreas Andersen) and Best Sound (Christian Schaaning).

Jørgen Storm Rosenberg was voted Best Producer for the youth film Switch and the Audience Award went to Tommy Wirkola’s comedy Buljo: The Movie.

Kosmorama’s own festival awards were also given out the same evening, in the presence of Norwegian Minister of Culture Trond Giske. The Russian film Alexandra [+see also:

by Alexander Sokurov won the top Kosmorama Award with its NOK 100,000 cash prize for the distributor who will release the film in Norway.

The Norwegian Film Institute’s Import Award (NOK 100,000) went to Thailand’s Ploy by Pen-ek Ratanaruang, and the innovative directorial debut Respect by local filmmaker Johannes Joner won the Debut Award (NOK 50,000) and the Youth Award.

The fourth edition of the Kosmorama fest opened on February 28 with the Norwegian premiere of the political thriller Night of the Wolf [+see also:

by Swedish action specialist Kjell Sundvall. Highlights of the festival included a masterclass by US filmmaker John Sayles and Peter Greenaway’s presentation of his latest film Nightwatching [+see also:
