Picture Europe! At Copenhagen’s Grand

by

The historic cinema Grand Teatret in Copenhagen, one of the most prominent showcases for European films in the Danish capital, will host from March 12-18 the Picture Europe! initiative supported by the MEDIA Programme’s European Film Promotion. Eleven selected European films will be presented at the cinema by their directors and/or actors.

“Danish directors have done a good job of exposing Denmark around Europe. But getting European cinema exposed in Denmark is still a demanding task,” said Kim Foss, managing director of the Grand Cinema and head of distribution company Camera Film.

“So, in a way, we are faced with a situation where it is not a question of what we can do for European cinema, but what European cinema can do for us. We need to fight self-satisfied and nationalistic tendencies in art as well as in politics. We can do that by exposing audiences to the plurality of European cinema. Hosting Picture Europe! The same year as Copenhagen hosts the European Film Awards feels like being hometown to the Olympics the same year as the European Championships,” added Foss.
