DVD market shows record growth

The British DVD market reached sales of 250 million units in 2007, up from 229 million in 2006, growing 0.5% in value to £2.3bn.

Within the top 10, British films accounted for 45% of the sales volume, according to official data from the British Video Association (BVA).Film has been the market development driver through the year with volumes up by 13.2%. Casino Royale [+see also:

The Children sector has also seen double-digit growth with volumes up by 12.8% on 2006. BVA Director General Lavinia Carey said: “There have been concerns that new technologies and piracy would reduce the physical sales of video. However, distributors and retailers have reacted by offering consumers even more choice and value for money and consumers are clearly responding as the market continues to increase on a monthly basis.”
