The following year, he became the first Hungarian director to take part in the Cannes Cinéfondation competition with Little Apocrypha No. 2 and another of his shorts (Joan of Arc on the Night Bus) screened in the Directors’ Fortnight. In 2005, he returned to Cannes with his second feature Johanna, which screened in Un Certain Regard.

Re-filmed due to a tragic turn of events (see news), Delta stars Félix Lajkó (who also composed the film score), Orsi Tóth, Lili Monori and Sándor Gáspár.

Written by the director, the film is freely adapted from two literary classics (Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Euripides’ Electra). Returning for his father’s funeral after being driven away by his mother 20 years earlier, the protagonist meets his sister for the first time. They fall in love and, upon discovering that their father was murdered by their mother and her lover, decide to avenge his death.

Delta screened at the 39th Hungarian Film Week in February and won the Golden Reel Award for Best Film and the Gene Moskowitz Prize awarded by foreign critics.

Produced by Viktória Petrányi for Proton Cinema, Delta was co-produced by German company Essential Filmproduktion and Hungarian-based FilmPartners, with backing from the Motion Picture Public Foundation, the Hungarian Culture Ministry, TV2, Budapest Film and German fund Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung.

International sales are being handled by French company The Coproduction Office.
