Cultures clash in Wrona's debut

Young director Marcin Wrona – a graduate of the Andrzej Wajda Master School and winner of the Polish edition of the Hartley-Merrill competition in 2007 – is currently shooting his debut feature. Tamagotchi explores the confrontation between Asian and European culture.

The protagonist – a boxer – is seriously injured in a fight. He initially finds it hard to accept that he must end his career and, in order to take his mind off the prospect, he plunges into a life of drinking in late-night bars.

Tamagotchi is produced by Piotr and Lukasz Dzieciol for Opus Film. The film has a budget of €1m, half of which has been provided by the Polish Film Institute (PISF).

Polish public television network TVP and Canal + are co-producing the film whose premiere screening will take place in autumn 2008, as part of the Gdynia Polish Film Festival.
