Eloise set for London, Paris shoot

by

UK film production company HandMade Films has announced that principal photography for Eloise in Paris will begin on August 12 in London, Paris and New York. The film is to be directed by Charles Shyer (Alfie).

The film is based on Kay Thompson’s Eloise books. Nine-year-old Australian actress Jordanna Beatty was cast in the title role of a precocious young girl who lives at The Plaza Hotel in Paris with her English nanny, dog and turtle. Uma Thurman has been cast as the nanny.

Rounding off the casting is 11-year-old Marcus Vigneron Coudroy, who has appeared alongside Gerard Depardieu and Carole Bouquet in Nicolas Bary’s Les Enfants de Timpelbach, and was selected from a casting call in London and Paris. He will play Jean-Luc, who befriends Eloise.

Shyer said, “It’s rare to write a part and then have an actor come in and read it exactly the way you heard it in your mind. That’s what happened with Marcus. Four words into his audition, I knew our search was over.”

Patrick Meehan, Thomas D. Adelman, and Ron Rotholz of HandMade Films are producing the film while Shyer will be executive producer.

The company’s sales and financial arm HandMade International is involved in the financing production and the sale of upcoming films such as Manolete, starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz; the animated feature Planet 51; 50 Dead Men Walking, starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess; and the 2008 version of The Long Good Friday, to be directed by Paul Anderson and released by Sony Pictures.

Founded by ex-Beatle, the late George Harrison, HandMade has produced several iconic British films, including Life of Brian, Mona Lisa, Time Bandits and Withnail & I.
