The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles have awarded the 2008 Oscar for Best Foreign Student Film to Reto Caffi for his film short Auf der Strecke, which was made at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. This is the first time a Swiss director has won the prestigious trophy, which will be presented on June 7 at the Annual Student Academy Awards ceremony in Beverly Hills.

Moreover, Auf der Strecke is among the eight "best international shorts of the year" selected by the French Academy of Film Arts and Sciences for the second edition of the Nuits en or du court métrage (“Golden Nights of Short Film”), which will take place across France from May 27-July 11, with stopovers in Brussels and Geneva.
