Third time lucky for Madrid de Cine

by

Perseverance reaps rewards and the figures for Madrid de Cine bear this out. After two editions of increasing success, the Spanish film market held in the capital has grown in stature. In the shadow of the renowned Cannes Film Market, Madrid de Cine has nonetheless found a niche among buyers who come to the event to wind down from the frenzy of the Croisette.

Madrid is the beating heart of the Spanish audiovisual industry, with more than 60% of the sector’s companies based there. Madrid de Cine has thus become an opportunity for meetings and discussions between producers and buyers, who are able to enjoy a wealth of parallel activities and events.

In 2007, the event was attended by 133 buyers from 33 different countries. This year, 30% more participants and considerable international press presence are expected.

Producers and sellers wholeheartedly support the event, which will screen over 50 films, including world premieres such as Gerardo Herrero’s Que parezca un accidente (“So It Looks Like an Accident”) and Albert Espinosa’s No me pidas que te bese porque te besaré (“Don’t Ask Me To Kiss You Because I’ll Kiss You”).

Over three days, from June 8-10, the Spanish film market will organise screenings in the Renoir Cinemas. Moreover, as well as the usual market, round tables will be held in the Hotel Meliá Princesa.

The event will close on June 10 with a celebratory gathering, details of which have yet to be finalised. However, every year it has proved to be the perfect end to a busy spring for the sector’s professionals and well-known Spanish actors.

Madrid de Cine is an initiative of the FAPAE and is backed by several institutions. These include the Community and City Council of Madrid, as well as their audiovisual promotional agencies, and the ICAA, ICEX and EGEDA.
