Kedzierzawska’s young vagabonds in Jutro bedzie lepiej

by

Having worked together on Nothing, I Am and Time to Die – which won awards at festivals at Brussels, Trieste, Sotchi, Belgrade, San Francisco and Gdynia – director Dorota Kedzierzawska and DoP Artur Reinhart last week-end began shooting their new film: Jutro bedzie lepiej (“Things Will Be Better Tomorrow”). As is often the case in Kedzierzawska’s works, the lead roles are played by child actors.

The film centres on three young boys who are vagrants from disadvantaged backgrounds. Weary of living on the margins of society and yearning for a normal life, they decide to try and escape from their difficult everyday existence.

Partially based on real-life events, the story serves as a vehicle for exploring the notion of freedom, the role of chance in our unfolding destiny and the right to have dreams.

The film stars the Ukraine’s Oleg and Genia Ryba (six and 11 respectively) and Chechen actor Akhmed Sardalov (11). The rest of the cast is largely composed of non-professional actors, which is an approach favoured by the director.

Produced by Polish company Kid Film, Jutro bedzie lepiej has co-production backing from Japanese distributor Takashi Niwa. The latter released I Am in Japan and will launch Kedzierzawska’s new work on the Asian market.
