14 Spanish co-productions set to receive Ibermedia funding

by

Twenty-five co-productions – including 14 with Spanish partners – that took part in the first stage of the Ibermedia 2008 funding competition are set to share a total $3.3m in funding. The Ibermedia programme – which is actively supported by the Spanish Ministry of Culture – promotes collaboration between the different countries of Central and South America and Spain and Portugal.

Four of the selected projects were presented by Spanish companies. Titles include Sex of Angels (produced by Continental Producciones and co-produced by Brazil’s CCFBR Prod.); Negro Buenos Aires (“Black Buenos Aires”, ZIP Films in co-production with Argentina’s 1971 Cine); and the documentaries La huella de Mercedes Pinto (“Mercedes Pinto’s Footsteps”, Tinglado-Inicia Films in co-production with Uruguay’s Guazu Media) and Tra-las luces (Tic Tac Producciones in co-production with Argentinean company Lagarto Asociados).

Moreover, a further nine of the selected projects are co-produced by Spain, even though they were presented by companies from other countries. Wanda Visión is co-producing Argentinean films Agua que brilla (“Water that Shines”) and El niño pez (“The Fish Child”); Luna Films will co-produce Argentinean title Anima (Buenos Aires) (“Soul, Buenos Aires”); and Monfort Producciones is joining forces with a Brazilian company to produce Do começo ao fim.

Meanwhile, Twenty Four Seven is co-producing Colombian film El arriero (“The Muleteer”), Com. Fractal is co-producing Peruvian title Octubre, and Morena Films and Potenza Producciones are backing Portuguese projects: America and O último voo do flamingo, respectively. Finally, Tic Tac Producciones will collaborate on Argentinean film Vienen por el oro vienen por todo (“They Come for the Gold, They Come for Everything”).

Moreover, Ibermedia will support a further 41 projects, including 30 in development. The winners of the second 2008 funding competition will be announced in November. The total amount of funding available for both competitions is $6.5m.
