Four top awards to The Man Who Loved Yngve

Last Saturday’s Amanda Awards - Norway’s main national film awards, held at Haugesund’s Concert Hall - was a memorable evening for first time director Stian Kristiansen who received four top awards including Best Norwegian Film and Best Director for The Man Who Loved Yngve [+see also:

The drama produced by Motlys Film also scooped Best Children and Youth Film and Best Editor (Vidar Flataukan). Nils Gaup’s epic film The Kautokeino Rebellion [+see also:

film profile], the biggest Norwegian hit of 2008 so far, took home the most awards (five), including the People’s Amanda Award. Both films are sold internationally by NonStop Sales.

film profile] was nominated in the most categories (7) with The Man Who Loved Yngve, but took home only two awards for Best Supporting Actor (Espen Skjønberg) and Sound Design (Petter Fladeby). The scriptwriting duo Thomas Moldestad and Stig Rajendram Eliassen were awarded for their joint efforts on Varg Veum-Fallen Angels, the fourth film of the successful series, while the film’s lead actor Trond Espen Seim also took an Amanda for his role as private eye Varg Veum.
The Amanda Ceremony shown live on TV2 Norway and attended by Norway’s biggest international star Liv Ullmann and Norway’s Culture Minister Trond Giske, kick started the Norwegian International Film Festival (August 17-23).
