European films dominate this week’s slate of new releases, representing eight of the nine new titles. One Swedish, several French and a diverse and colourful selection of Belgian features are hitting screens.

On the French side, Barbet Schroeder’s latest film, Inju [+see also:

– produced by the director’s loyal collaborators MK2 – is being released by A-Film on four screens in both Francophone and Dutch-speaking Belgium.

, by Belgian/French/Canadian trio Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy. Enthusiastically received by critics and audiences who were won over by the avant-premiere screenings, the film is being launched on seven screens by Cinéart, in both French and Dutch-speaking Belgium.

The trio’s debut film, Iceberg [+see also:

, garnered over 3,000 admissions in Belgium. Rumba looks set to attract even greater numbers of Belgian cinemagoers.

Flemish box office sensation Jan Verheyen also returns to screens. One year after Vermist [+see also:

– which amassed over 200,000 admissions and inspired two successful TV dramas – the director makes a comeback with Los, adapted from a best-seller by Flemish author Tom Nagels.

Produced by Eyeworks, the film looks at racism in Antwerp and centres on a journalist who has to overcome his usual small-mindedness to safeguard the future of a young Pakistani immigrant. The title is being released by Kinepolis on over 20 screens.

Verheyen is already working on another Eyeworks production, Dossier K, the sequel to Erik van Looy’s The Alzheimer Case [+see also:

. Van Looy is unable to direct the film himself due to his exclusivity contract with Woestijnvis.
