Mid-August Lunch gets Pasinetti from film press

The Pasinetti Awards, chosen every year by the members of the SNGCI (Italian National Film Journalists Union) accredited at the Venice Film Festival , were presented today in Rome. The prize-winners, already announced at the closing of the festival, are picked from among the Italian films in all the sections at Venice.

Best Debut Film went to Gianni Di Gregorio’s Mid-August Lunch [+see also:

, a low-budget film with a relatively short running time whose lively cast of 80-somethings nevertheless captured the attentions of the press and public, and which as so far grossed €900,000. Special Mention went to another debut, PA-RA-DA [+see also:

Best Actor was given to Silvio Orlando for Pupi Avati’s Giovanna’s Father (Orlando’s performance won him the Volpi Cup at Venice as well), and Isabella Ferrari for her double turn in Ferzan Ozpetek’s A Perfect Day [+see also:

The SNGCI further emphasised – citing Marco Bechis’ Birdwatchers [+see also:

and the documentaries ThyssenKrupp blues by Pietro Balla and Monica Repetto and La fabbrica dei tedeschi by Mimmo Calopresti – the strength of Italian cinema at the Lido, “for themes that touch upon dramatic working conditions and exploitation in Italy and internationally”.
