High Point snaps up Mum & Dad, The Understudy

by

High Point Films have acquired world rights, excluding the UK and North America, for Steven Sheil’s British horror film Mum & Dad.

The film thrusts a Polish airport worker into a horrific situation when an overnight stopover at a friend’s place turns into a nightmare with killer parents (the titular Mum & Dad) terrorising her.

Mum & Dad is the first film to be completed under Film London’s Microwave scheme. 2am Films’ Lisa Trnovski produced, with backing from EM Media and BBC Films.

High Point Chairman Ronald de Neef said, “Mum & Dad is vital, raw and visceral film making, which takes you by the scruff of the neck and pulls you headfirst into its compellingly twisted world. Steven Sheil is clearly a name to watch and we are proud to be continuing our tradition of bringing bold new talent into the international arena.”

Trnovski said, “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with a company as well established and experienced as High Point. They have a deservedly robust reputation for handling strong, distinctive films internationally. It’s fantastic to have such a clearly dedicated team on board.”

Mum & Dad screens in Sitges, Spain this month before High Point launches the film at the AFM. Revolver will release the film in the UK in December.

Meanwhile, High Point has also acquired world rights for Hannah Davis and David Conolly’s New York off-Broadway satire, The Understudy.

High Point’s Carey Fitzgerald said, “The Understudy is a razor sharp, impeccably acted satire with humour echoing the likes of Woody Allen and Todd Solondz, but with a character very much its own. David and Hannah are clearly a dynamite team whose talent is definitely something to look out for and promises more to come.”
