The jury explained its unanimous decision with the following statement: “Instead of telling just one story in a conventional linear style, You, the Living is made up of carefully composed sequences from a bizarre world that is simultaneously sad and surrealistically funny. These humorous and tragic tableaux show our best and worst sides, make us laugh and force us to think. In brief, You, the Living reminds us of the opportunities that the film media holds for powerful personal experiences."

Andersson said about the award: “Apart from the honour, the prize is also of very tangible and practical importance to me, because its cash value gives me unique, excellent opportunities to prompt research and writing on my new film, where I now have the possibility of working with new techniques".

You, the Living had its world premiere in the 2007 Cannes sidebar Un Certain Regard. The same year, it was also Sweden’s Oscar entry and won Best Film, Director and Script at Sweden’s Guldbagge awards. The film was co-produced with France (Société Parisienne de Production), Germany (Thermidor Filmproduktion), Denmark (Posthus Teatret) and Norway (4½ Production), with The Coproduction Office handling world sales.
