21st Exground has Spanish flavour
The 21st Exground Film Festival (November 14-23) – which is currently underway in Wiesbaden – has a Spanish flavour.

film profile], set the tone by opening the event. German audiences also have the opportunity to discover a panorama of recent Iberian productions as part of the traditional Focus on a country section.
Titles include Isidro Cortiz’s dark fantasy thriller Shiver, Andalusian director F. Javier Gutiérrez’s Before the Fall and Aitzol Aramaio’s A Tram in SP, starring German actor Daniel Brühl, who was born in Barcelona to a Spanish mother. The Focus also includes two selections of shorts, one made up of documentary works and the other of narrative and animated shorts.
A retrospective is dedicated to the varied oeuvre of Basque director Julio Médem, from the period film Cows to his latest title, Chaotic Ana. The line-up also includes The Lovers of the Arctic Circle, Sex and Lucia [+see also:

film profile] and The Basque Ball: Skin Against Stone, a documentary on the Basque issue.
Exground will show a total of 250 shorts, features and videos. The festival’s other traditional sections are American Independents, News from Asia, International and Documentaries, as well as the competitions German Short Film, ON VIDEO, Wiesbaden-Special and International Youth Film.
This year’s new addition is the Betting on Shorts contest, which gives audiences the chance to bet on the winner of a line-up of films screened simultaneously in several European cities.
Shorts take pride of place in the various festival sections, including Short Matters, which presents all the UIP Award winners at the major European film festivals of 2007. As is traditional at Exground, shorts are also shown before each feature.
The programme also includes parallel events, such as parties and discussions. This year’s new event, A Wall is a Screen, offers audiences the unique experience of an evening walk through the city, while films are projected onto the walls.
