AWARDS France

32 newcomers vie for Césars

by

A list of young French actors and actresses selected by the César Academy Newcomers Committee is to be submitted to the 3,700 voters who will choose the nominees and then the winners of the 2009 César Awards for Best Female and Best Male Newcomer.

The list includes the three stars of Rémi Bezançon’s The First Day of the Rest of Your Life and Christophe Honoré’s La belle personne (“The Beautiful Person”), as well as several actors and actresses from films unveiled at the latest Cannes Film Festival (Versailles, Home, A Christmas Tale, Frontier of Dawn and Grown Ups).

There will also be two new additions to the rules at the 2009 César Awards in order to "better reflect the richness and diversity of French film and honour foreign productions in the French language". The nominations for Best Film will increase from five to seven films, as will those for Best Foreign Film (two of which will be reserved for French-language foreign films).

The nominations for the 2009 César Awards will be announced on January 23, 2009. Charlotte Gainsbourg will act as president of the 34th ceremony, to be held on February 27 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
