Gastronomic love triangle for Nora Tschirner in Bon Appétit!
German actress Nora Tschirner (who appeared in the hit film Rabbit Without Ears [+see also:
film profile]) plays a wine waitress in Spanish editor David Pinillos’ debut feature, Bon Appétit!. The film – which started shooting in Spain (Bilbao) in November, before relocating to Switzerland (Zurich) – is currently wrapping up in Germany (Munich).
This romantic comedy – co-written by Pinillos, Juan Carlos Rubio and screenwriter-director Paco Cabezas – is set in a prestigious Swiss restaurant.
Young and ambitious Spanish culinary talent, Daniel (played by Basque actor Unax Ugalde, seen in Goya’s Ghosts [+see also:
film profile]), is hired by head chef Thomas (Herbert Knaup) and moves in with his Italian colleague Hugo (Giulio Berruti). Whilst preparing the most exquisite dishes, in this cosmopolitan but hierarchy-governed world, Daniel gradually falls for the wine waitress Hanna, with whom the head chef is also in love.
This European project is produced – for around €2.8m – by Spain’s Morena Films and Orio Produkzioak, Germany’s Egoli Tossell and Switzerland’s Zodiac Pictures. The film received €350,000 in backing from Eurimages.
Bon Appétit! will be released in Germany by Warner Bros. Pictures in spring 2009.
