Slumdog dominates BAFTA nominations

juggernaut rolls on with a whopping 11 BAFTA nominations. However, this time around the film goes head to head with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which also won 11 nominations.

Slumdog was nominated for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Director (Danny Boyle), Adapted Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), Leading Actor (Dev Patel) and Supporting Actress (Freida Pinto) alongside nods for Music, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design and Sound.

The nominees for the Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement by a British Director, Writer or Producer for their First Feature Film are Simon Chinn (Producer - Man on Wire), Judy Crayner (Producer - Mamma Mia!) Garth Jennings (Writer - Son Of Rambow [+see also:

), Steve McQueen (Writer/Director - Hunger) and Solon Papadopoulos and Roy Boulter (Producers - Of Time and the City [+see also:

).

Other British nominees include The Reader (Best Film, Director - Stephen Daldry), Tilda Swinton (Supporting Actress - Burn After Reading), Martin McDonagh (Original Screenplay - In Bruges) and David Hare and Peter Morgan (Adapted Screenplay - The Reader and Frost/Nixon respectively) amongst others.

UK Film Council CEO John Woodward said, “It’s excellent to see such a diverse range of British film represented, from hard-hitting Hunger to blockbuster Mamma Mia! and of course the sensational Slumdog Millionaire.”
