Weisse’s Architect triumphs at Nuremberg

The 14th Nuremberg Turkey-Germany Film Festival (February 26-March 8) awarded Best Film to Ina Weisse’s debut feature The Architect [+see also:

. The prize was shared with Atalay Tasdiken’s Turkish title The Bogeyman, which also won the Audience Award.

Weisse’s film also earned Best Actor for Josef Bierbichler. In it he plays an architect who returns to his native mountain village to attend his mother’s funeral, accompanied by his wife and children (played by Sandra Hüller and Matthias Schweighöfer – who appeared in the box office hit Rabbit Without Ears [+see also:

and in Fata Morgana).

Then comes the arrival of a mysterious woman, who reveals a secret that becomes all the more disturbing as the village gets cut off from the rest of the world by an avalanche. The Nuremberg Festival also honoured actor Armin Müller-Stahl with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
