Lunes al Sol wins Golden Shell
Los lunes al sol (Mondays in the Sun) by Fernando León de Aranoa won the Golden Shell at the 50th San Sebastian international film festival. "This film could easily have won more, but the Golden Shell is for all the people who made this film and we did not want to give another award that could devaluate the work of some of them," said jury member, Mariano Barroso.
This decision split the critics, many of whom did not like Los Lunes al sol.
All the other winners were greeted with long rounds of applause in the press room, the only exception being when it was announced that China's Liu Peiqi had won the best actor Silver Shell: the outright favourite was Javier Bardem for his brilliant performance in Los Lunes al Sol.
