4 Danish filmmakers go it alone

- "Fine & Mellow" is the result of a desire for more direct control over projects. Rembrandt, their first feature will shortly be released onto Danish screens

The four Danish filmmakers behind the recent box office hit entitled Shake it all about, Jannik Johansen, Line Knutson,Thomas Gammeltoft and the film’s director Hella Joof, have set up a new production company called Fine & Mellow, 33 per cent orf which is owned by Nordisk Film. The group was eager to have full control of their projects and the only way to achieve this was to set up their own company. The first results will be on show in a few weeks’ time when Fine & Mellow’s first feature film, Rembrandt by Jannik Johansen, is released in Denmark. The Euros 2.3 million movie is based on the 1999 theft of a Rembrandt from a Danish museum and reflects Fine & Mellow’s philosophy of making strong Danish stories that will also appeal to international audiences. A second feature, Oh, Happy Day, a comedy about a gospel choir that was written by Jannik Johansen and will be directed by former actress-turned-director Hella Joofs, is also in pre-production.
