During its first weekend on general release in Spain, Darkness, the latest film by Jaume Balaguerò, took Euros1.160million. The data was published by Filmax, who produced the film. A spokesperson said that this was an extremely significant result for Iberian cinema. Darkness had a bigger box office opening than that reported for Almodòvar’s Speak to Her.
Darkness stars Anna Paquin, Stephan Enquist, Lena Olin and Giancarlo Giannini and is the story of an adolescent's misadventures after she and her family move to a new house in a distant location. She soon discovers that her sombre residence has a terrifying past that threatens to destroy her entire family.
