film profile], the only Italian title in competition.
The story was conceived by the writer Nicolò Ammaniti, who after a trip to Puglia, was impressed and inspired by the "dry and arid land without even the protective shade of a tree or bush". The director, attracted by the thriller, produced the film, because he saw the possibility "to portray reality whilst distancing myself from comedy and realism". In this case realism filtered from the eyes of a 10 years old child. Protagonists of the film in fact are two ten-year-old children, and the story is shown by their point of view and perspective.
