Meetings on the Bridge (MoB), the Istanbul Film Festival’s international co-production, training and networking platform, kicks off its online version today, and it will run until 9 April. Apart from said workshops, MoB is also organising a series of online Cinema Talks.

The topic in focus at this edition is “Creating Strong Female Characters for Films and Series”, and two sessions on this subject will be held, both of which on Monday 5 April. The discussions will aim to effectively change society’s perception of women and minimise the violence perpetrated against them. MoB believes that such a change is possible if writers are motivated to create multi-dimensional, inspiring, motivational female characters that can change the way women are perceived in Turkey.

The first talk will be held from 15:30-17:00 (CET), with the participation of a group of Dutch professionals, including actress Carice van Houten; actress-director Halina Reijn (Instinct [+lee también:

). The discussion will be moderated by Turkish writer and award-winning producer Emine Yıldırım (Giyotin Film). The talk is organised with the support of the Netherlands Consulate-General in Istanbul.

The same day, running from 18:00-20:00, a second talk will feature a panel of American professionals: writer-director Aurora Guerrero; filmmaker Debra Granik; film programmer for the Sundance Film Festival Dilcia Barrera; Pakistani writer-director Iram Parveen Bilal; and industry and artist development consultant Jennifer Kushner. The panel will be moderated by associate professor at Istanbul’s Kadir Has University Melis Behlil. The talk is organised with the support of the US Embassy in Ankara.

Both talks will be live-streamed on YouTube, and international guests interested in the topic can tune in by clicking here.
