With a record-breaking budget of €17 million, Timo Vuorensola’s sci-fi sequel Iron Sky: The Coming Race is set to become the most expensive live-action movie in the history of Finnish filmmaking. “Again, it’s all about the crowd,” underlines Tero Kaukomaa, producer and founder of Finnish production company Blind Spot Pictures. “Without our long history of trying new ways of engaging the audience, we would not have a budget of this magnitude for the sequel. Now it is time to launch this new instrument, the Iron Sky War Bond.”

Iron Sky Universe started this crowdfunding campaign in order to support the cash flow for the movie’s production. The bonds will accumulate 4% to 8% annual interest for the owner; after a period of two years, the company will buy them back. The service is provided by Helsinki-based Invesdor.com, which is one of the leading European companies specialising in equity-based crowdfunding platforms.

sequel will begin on 19 October at AED Studios in Antwerp. For eight weeks, the production will be set up in six studio halls. “I'm feeling relaxed in spite of the huge setting. The script is dynamite, and the cast and crew are truly excited,” says writer-director Vuorensola. “We have loads of aces up our sleeve for the audience. I can hardly wait for the shooting of the film to start.”

The cast of this Finnish-German-Belgian co-production includes Julia Dietze (11⁄2 Knights, Bullet, Killing Frank), Udo Kier (Ace Ventura, Independence Day, Dancer in the Dark), Stephanie Paul (Separation City, Film School Confidential) and Tom Green (Swearnet: The Movie). Based on a story by acclaimed sci-fi writer Johanna Sinisalo, the script of this science-fiction adventure was penned by Timo Vuorensola.
