The Independent Cinema Office has announced that Developing Your Film Festival – the only training programme designed for film-festival professionals – will take place at the 23rd Vilnius International Film Festival (Vilnius IFF) from 20-25 March 2018. The course is aimed at film-festival professionals running established film gatherings, and the residential course is focused on sharing key lessons on audiences, profile and sustainability. The training programme has confirmed major speakers from festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival, New Horizons Film Festival and Vilnius IFF. Now in its eighth year, Developing Your Film Festival has previously taken place at the Motovun Film Festival in Croatia and at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in the UK. The course is funded by the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme and is supported by the British Council.
Catharine Des Forges, director of the Independent Cinema Office, said, “Festivals are doing cutting-edge work building our film culture, driven by passion (and a lot of long nights!). What we offer is a space to find the next big strategic change that helps shape that passionate vision into a clearly defined plan. Developing Your Film Festival has become a one-of-a-kind space for collaborators to meet, share and support each other, to maximise the potential of existing festivals, and to learn from industry leaders.”
Algirdas Ramaška, executive director of the Vilnius International Film Festival, said, “Vilnius IFF has championed the Developing Your Film Festival programme from its beginnings in 2010… Film festivals are a crucial space for cross-border sharing, learning and collaborating. A training course like Developing Your Film Festival provides a unique platform to strengthen that ongoing work, and our sector.”
The Independent Cinema Office is the UK’s national support organisation for independent exhibitors. The Creative Europe – MEDIA programme is the European Commission's programme to support the cultural, creative and audiovisual sectors. The Vilnius International Film Festival is the largest cinematic event in Lithuania, and the British Council’s Film Team works with the best of British creative talent to develop innovative, high-quality events, and collaborations with filmmakers and cultural institutions around the world.
