Written by Nicoletta MicheliGiovanni Bognetti and Guido Chiesa, the screenplay tells the story of Gabriele (De Luigi), a former rocker turned owner of a musical instrument shop. He is a divorced but doting father, focused exclusively on Sofia (Sbaraglia), his ten-year-old daughter. Whenever his friends introduce him to a potential new girlfriend, all he does is talk about his daughter, thus killing off any chance he has of getting lucky.

One day, Mara (Ramazzotti) comes tumbling into Gabriele’s life. She’s a friend he hasn’t seen in years, who in the meantime has become a go-getting freelance photographer. On their first date, just as things are starting to look up, Mara reveals to Gabriele that not only does she not want to have children, but in fact she hates kids full stop. Overcome with passion, Gabriele denies Sofia’s very existence.

From that point on, Gabriele’s days become a succession of absurd ruses to hide his daughter’s presence from Mara and vice versa, to such an extent that he transforms his own flat every time one of the two is about to come round. Clearly, lies will get him nowhere, and Gabriele’s masquerade will be short-lived.

The shoot for the film took place in Rome and Pescara (“A city that offers never-before-seen views; from an architectural point of view, you don’t get the feeling you’re in a typical Italian city,” the director stated recently) and lasted six weeks. The cast is rounded off by Andrea Pisani, Shel Shapiro, Chiara Spoletini, Caterina Guzzanti, Daniele de Martino and Bob Messini.

Ti presento Sofia, which is currently in post-production, is being produced by Maurizio Totti and Alessandro Usai for Colorado Film in conjunction with Medusa Film, which will also act as its distributor; its release date is yet to be confirmed.
