Un couteau dans le cœur, de Yann Gonzalez

French international sales agency Kinology is well-armed for this year’s Film Market at the 71st Cannes Film Festival (running 8 to 19 May), with two of their films in particular having their world premiere in the competition, as part of the Official Selection.

Of special note is the work by young French filmmaker Yann Gonzalez, Knife + Heart [+lee también:

, one of a few dark horses in the Cannes competition this year, on the books of the Kinology team headed up by Grégoire Melin (and supported by Gaëlle Mareschi). , gives us Vanessa Paradis in the role of Anne, a producer of cheap gay porno films in Paris. During the summer of 1979, Anne’s editor and partner, Loïs, leaves her. She plots to win her back by shooting a more ambitious film with the help of her lifelong partner in crime, the flamboyant Archibald. But when one of their actors is found brutally murdered, she finds herself pulled into a strange investigation which will turn her whole life upside down. Produced by Charles Gillibert for CG Cinéma, this is a film co-produced by Arte France Cinéma, Piano (Mexico) and Garidi Films (Switzerland).

by Terry Gilliam (the cast featuring Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce, Stellan Skarsgård and Olga Kurylenko) which is programmed to close the Cannes Festival (unless the officials decide otherwise). It was produced by Mariela Besuievsky, Gerardo Herrero, Amy Gilliam, Grégoire Melin and Sébastien Delloye, and the productions companies involved are Tornasol Films, Kinology, Entre Chien et Loup and Ukbar Filmes

Another bright star of the line-up is Bergman Island by French director Mia Hansen-Løve, with a cast featuring Greta Gerwig, John Turturro, Mia Wasikowska and Anders Danielsen Lie. Due to be completed in May 2019, the film will be set on the island of Fårö, formerly home to the famous Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, and will follow a couple of American filmmakers who set up camp on the island for the summer, in a bid for inspiration. As time goes by, they become increasingly isolated from one another. The atmosphere on the island stirs up certain memories for them and the line between fiction and reality quickly begins to blur, driving the couple even further apart. This film will be produced by French company CG Cinéma, alongside the Swedish contingent at Plattform Produktion, the Germans of Bue Biosko Film and the Belgians at Scope Pictures, with the support of Eurimages.

Kinology will also be using its time in Cannes to pre-sell The Innocent [+lee también:

, the documentary by Samuel Collardey (discovered at Sundance), at the Film Market. All without forgetting Annette by Leos Carax (with a cast featuring Adam Driver and Michelle Williams) which is due for completion in 2020.
