After completing principal photography at the end of April, Damian O’Callaghan has now finished the post-production of his upcoming feature, which is now ready for festival distribution. Tradition is a modern-day family dramedy, but its story bears some similarities to the 1952 film The Quiet Man, directed by John Ford.

Fully shot in Killarney, an inland town located in County Kerry, the film’s plot revolves around the character of Seamus Moynihan, a middle-aged judge who lives in a small Irish village and finds himself presiding over one of the most intricate cases of his career – namely, a controversial refereeing decision made during an All-Ireland Club championship game. The lead character is portrayed by Paul Ronan, father of actress Saoirse Ronan and best known for his appearances in the TV series BallykissangelThe Tudors and Rebel Heart

This is O’Callaghan’s second feature film, after his debut drama The Gift, starring Alan Devine and released in Ireland in April 2017. The script of Tradition has been penned by the director himself and Claire Corrigan (Dracula UntoldPoison Pen), who worked as assistant director on O’Callaghan’s first feature.

The cast includes actors such as Pascal Scott (The Young Offenders [+lee también:

The Bailout), Brian Harty (The Professor and the Madman) and Brendan Grace (The Gift) as well as popular sports personalities such as RTÉ commentator Micheál Ó Muírcheartaigh and television presenter Marty Morrissey. Moreover, the technical crew is enhanced by the presence of director of photography Conor Fleming (who has collaborated with the camera and lighting departments on productions such as The Young Offenders and Cardboard Gangsters [+lee también:

OC Productions, a Killarney-based production company, will release Tradition later this summer and is currently in charge of its festival and theatrical distribution.
