(aka Snabba Cash), which is based on Jens Lapidus’ best-selling novels, is returning as an original series for Netflix, produced by SF Studios.

According to the official announcement, the story is set in the milieu of Stockholm’s buzzing underworld ten years after the events depicted in the feature-film franchise. Now, the demand for money and status is stronger than ever, and this leads the entrepreneurial jet set and the criminal underworld to clash, making them more brutal, chaotic and ruthless. The collision of these two worlds will put business partnerships, loyalty and friendships to the test, all set against the backdrop of the everlasting pursuit of easy money.

The series is being developed by Oskar Söderlund, an acclaimed screenwriter who’s better known as the writer of The Fat and the Angry series and the creator of the terror-attack thriller Greyzone, along with the author of the books, Jens Lapidus, who is also on board as an executive producer. Lapidus, who is a criminal defence lawyer by trade, stated: “I have been waiting for an opportunity to continue with Snabba Cash. The stories are still epic but also depict our time in an unfiltered light. It will be amazing.” His “Stockholm Noir” trilogy of novels has sold 2.2 million copies in Sweden and has been translated into 30 languages.

The first book in the series, Snabba Cash, was adapted into three films, all starring subsequently acclaimed actor Joel Kinnaman as JW and produced by SF Studios. The first movie, Easy Money, was released in 2010 and was directed by Daniel Espinosa, followed by Easy Money II: Hard to Kill [+lee también:

in 2012, by Babak Najafi. The final one, Easy Money III: Life Deluxe, came out in 2013 and was helmed by Jens Jonsson.

The six-part series will commence shooting in Sweden during 2020 and is being produced by SF Studios’ Nicklas Wikström Nicastro, who was also behind the TV series The Lawyer and Alex, along with the Oscar-nominated feature A Man Called Ove [+lee también:

, the third highest-grossing film in Swedish history.

Regarding the collaboration between Netflix and SF Studios, Tesha Crawford, director of International Originals Northern Europe, said: “We are happy to announce this new Swedish series and to bring the world from these much-loved movies back to life in a fresh and exciting way. To do this, we are fortunate to be working with some amazing Swedish creatives. We are excited about working with Oskar and Jens and their vision for this new chapter of Snabba Cash. With SF Studios on board, we also have an incredibly strong local partner.”
