The full list of directors selected for the Ateliers d’Angers 2019 - along with mini synopses of their projects - is as follows:

Anne Brouillet (France) – Devenir propriétaire
Camille buys an apartment with Thibault in a deprived neighbourhood. It’s somewhere they’ll be able to breathe and finally be happy. But there are strange noises filtering through the apartment wall. Camille listens. Behind the wall lurks danger, precariousness, exoticism. She will end up throwing herself, body and soul, into her fascination for Aarmaan, the youngest of her Afghan neighbours, helping him almost to the point of losing herself. But as soon as he ceases to be the virtuous shadow that Camille had imagined, her fascination recedes and hate wins out.

Yohan Manca (France) – Mes frères, et moi [+lee también:

It’s the summer holidays. Nour is a 14-year-old boy who lives in a poor area on the coast. Amidst the misadventures of his older brothers and the absence of his mother, Nour’s encounter with Sarah, a young opera singer, provides him with an opportunity to escape the suffocating warmth of the sun, of his brothers and of his neighbourhood and to live out his new-found opera-themed dream.

Fisnik Maxhuni (Switzerland/Kosovo) - La Terre de mes entrailles
It’s winter 2008 and following years of exile in Geneva, Val returns to his Kosovo homeland where the exhumation of a mass grave in his village forces him to face up to the secrets of his past.

Emmanuelle Nicot (Belgium/France) – Dalva [+lee también:

Thirteen-year-old Dalva is suddenly removed from her father’s care. She’s furious and doesn’t understand why they’ve been separated. Subsequently placed in a home and reintegrated into the school system, the adolescent will gradually learn that beneath the surface of what she has always known as “love” lurks something entirely different.

Nara Normande (Brazil/France) - A Garça
In 1996, a group of children make the most of the summer in an isolated fishing village in north-eastern Brazil. Fourteen-year-old Léo has come from the city to spend the holidays with his cousins. He discovers a world of freedom and meets a girl who’s known as Sans Cœur as a result of the scar on her chest.

Thomas Petit (France) - Sous le soleil exactement
Renaud is a father of a family like any other. One summer, he meets a German tourist of a similar age. An immediate complicity binds the two men together and they arrange to see each other outside of the holidays. But, over time, Renaud’s desire will lead him to abandon his loved ones and start a new life.

Lawrence Valin (France) – Elaam
It’s 2009 in Paris’ 18th district. Michael Sebamalai, a young recruit in the General Directorate for Internal Security, is tasked with infiltrating the Tamil Puyal gang, which has links to Sri-Lankan terrorists. But, as he plunges ever deeper into this community, Michael realises that things aren’t as straightforward as they seem and will gradually find himself identifying with the very group he set out to destroy.
