Continuously fine-tuning its specialisation in out-of-the-ordinary, edgy and cult cinema, the TVoD platform Spamflix is now delving into the catalogue of prolific British filmmaker Alex Cox, who is widely known for directing Repo Man and Sid and Nancy. During the month of October, more of Cox’s films will be added to Spamflix’s catalogue, one each week. The month started with the surreal comedy Three Businessmen, in which the director also stars alongside his frequent collaborator Miguel Sandoval, which was followed by the crime film Highway Patrolman.

This week, Death and the Compass has been added to the catalogue, an adaptation based on the story by Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges. It stars Peter Boyle as the revered Detective Lonnrot, who takes a case that proves that his wittiness will be his downfall. Next week, Cox’s most recent film, Tombstone Rashomon, will be available on Spamflix. Made as a western, the story focuses on the most notorious gunfight in the American Wild West, at the OK Corral. When a film crew decides to travel back in time to interview all of the people involved in the event, they realise that each one has a different perspective.

The retrospective on Cox will end on Halloween, when Straight to Hell Returns, the director’s cut of the cult 1987 action-comedy Straight to Hell, will start to stream. A spaghetti western parody, the film follows a gang of criminals who become stranded in the desert and stumble upon a surreal town that is inhabited by coffee-addicted killers. In the leads are Dick Rude, Sy Richardson, Courtney Love and Joe Strummer, with cameos from Dennis Hopper, Grace Jones and Elvis Costello.

Finally, Spamflix is a sponsor of the Sitges Film Festival, the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and the Trieste Film Festival, and this week, the platform is celebrating its first anniversary by offering a special film pack comprising five films for €9.99.

Spamflix is co-financed by the Lisboa 2020 programme of the ERDF European Fund.
