The Netherlands Film Fund, the country’s film agency, has announced the recipients of its Production Incentive. On this occasion, the body has earmarked €6.8 million for 15 new audiovisual productions. These contributions are predicted to generate over €24 million in production expenses across the entire Dutch film sector.

The grants of the biggest magnitude (€1.5 million each) were awarded to two productions: Todor Chapkanov’s crime-drama Black Lotus (produced by US outfit Capstone Group LLC in co-operation with Tom de Mol Productions) and Diederik van Rooijen’s 8x50 drama series The Heir (staged by Column Projects). The second high-end TV series in receipt of a bursary was Sia Hermanides and Alieke van Saarloos’s Ninja Nanny 2 (€508,080, produced by The Storytellers Film & TV).

(€114,917, a Witfilm production), which tells the story of four female killers who murdered their husbands out of love, fear or rage, and Dawood Hilmandi’s Oh Father, I Don’t Want to Hate You (€52,871, produced by BALDR film), a documentary that sees the Afghan‐Dutch filmmaker challenging himself and his authoritarian father, and questioning him about the notion of freedom.

The other ten fiction films benefiting from the fund’s incentive are Maurice Trouwborst’s Captain Nova (€479,553, produced by KeplerFilm), Jamel Aattache’s Casanova (€225,212, produced by 2CFILM), Muayad Alayan’s A House in Jerusalem (€46,763, staged by Israel’s PalCine Productions in co-operation with Dutch outfit KeyFilm, Greece’s Heretic Film and Germany’s Red Balloon Film), Appie Boudellah and Aram van de Rest’s Just Say Yes (€222,400, produced by AM Pictures), Ilse Warringa’s Licemother the Movie (€656,269, staged by Dutch outfits Johan Nijenhuis & Co and BING Film & TV), Constantin Hatz’s March (€125,044, produced by Bremen-based Kinescope Film in co-operation with the Netherlands’ Isabella Films, Austria’s Witcraft Filmproduktion and Germany’s Domar Film), Daria Bukvić’s Meskina (€258,720, a NewBe TV production), Erwin van den Eshof’s Misfit 3 (€210,560, another NewBe TV production), Hans SomersPregnant & Co (€606,630, another Johan Nijenhuis & Co production) and Jan-Willem van Ewijk’s Sleep (€301,061, staged by The Film Kitchen and Belgium’s Savage Film).

The next application deadline for the Production Incentive for both film productions and high-end TV series is 6 May 2020. The provision offers a financial contribution in the form of a cash rebate on the qualifying production costs that are demonstrably spent in the country.
