Film Fund Luxembourg’s selection committee has announced the recipients of its latest slate of funding. The panel evaluated 57 applications, and greenlit development and production support for 21 new projects. On this occasion, the agency will invest a total of €11,003,985 in the making of 12 fiction features, two animated features, one documentary feature, two TV series, one transmedia documentary, one docufiction series, one animated series and one VR project.

In detail, the projects in receipt of development grants are Cyrus Neshvad’s thriller Le refuge (€50,000, produced by Cynefilms), Christophe Wagner’s drama The Believers (€30,000, a Samsa Film presentation), Christian Neuman’s horror Stargazer (€31,000, staged by Wild Fang Films), Margarethe Von Trotta’s drama Bachmann & Frisch (€30,000, produced by Amour Fou Luxembourg), Massoud Bakhshi’s drama Quartet (€30,000, also produced by Amour Fou Luxembourg), Christophe Wagner’s second season of Capitani (€120,000, staged by Samsa Film), Adolf El Assal’s new comedy series Finding Rosa (€60,000, produced by Wady Films) and Donato Rotunno’s docufiction series 41 – Die Spaltung Der Welt (€120,000, produced by Iris Productions).

The project in receipt of the production grant of the biggest magnitude is Laura Schroeder’s drama Maret (€2,880,000, produced by Red Lion in co-operation with undisclosed German partners). The film follows a woman called Maret (played by Susanne Wolff), who travels to Lanzarote to participate in a new study, after losing part of her memory. There, she discovers that she may not want to remember the person she once was.

Meanwhile, the other fiction and non-fiction projects backed by the agency with production bursaries are Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s action flick Kawasaki (€1,500,000, produced by Calach Films in co-operation with Belgian partners), Emily Atef’s drama Mister (€1,050,000, staged by Samsa Film in co-operation with French, Norwegian and German outfits), Benito Zambrano’s drama Pan de limón (€888,000, a Deal Productions effort in co-operation with Spanish partners), Fernando Guzzoni’s drama Blanquita (€200,000, co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg, and French, Polish, Brazilian and Chilean firms), Danielle Davie and Mohamed Sabbah’s drama Embodied Chorus (€50,000, produced by Wild Fang Films with German and Lebanese partners), Radu Jude’s drama Sleepwalkers (€200,000, produced by Paul Thiltges Distributions in collaboration with Romanian and Croatian firms), Dominique Santana’s transmedia documentary A Colônia Luxemburguesa (€250,000, produced by Samsa Film), Jacques Goldstein’s documentary Monk, Pannonica et les jazzmen (€270,000, produced by a_Bahn and French partners) and Blanca Li’s VR project Le bal de Paris (€207,932, staged by Fabrique d’Images in co-operation with French and German outfits).

Finally, the animated productions in receipt of support are Julien Chheng and Jean-Christophe Roger’s adventure flick Ernest et Celestine, le voyage en Charabie (€1,224,633, staged by Mélusine Productions and French firms), Signe Baumane’s dramedy-musical My Love Affair with Marriage (€200,000, co-produced by Antevita Films with Latvian and US partners), and Julien Renault and Ghayth Chegaar’s comedy series Le fond du bocal (€1,612,420, produced by Zeilt Productions in collaboration with Chinese and French outfits).
