Malherbe has short films such as Macadam Peau-rouge (in the national competition at Clermont-Ferrand in 2009) and Dans leur peau under his belt, as well as the TV movies Belleville Story and Camera Obscura, plus the series Chefs and Moloch (soon to air on Arte, with Olivier Gourmet and Marina Vacth among the cast).

The story of Ogre, written by the director himself, revolves around six-year-old Jules and his mother, Chloé (35), who arrive in the darkest depths of the Morvan, surrounded by forests and fields. Chloé, a primary school teacher, takes over the management of the village school. A new life, a promise of heaven on Earth, in order to forget her painful past… But when Mathieu, a young doctor, starts getting closer to his mother, Jules sees red. He is convinced that Mathieu is an animal that plans to separate him from his mum and gobble him up…

Produced by Laurent Lavolé for Gloria Films Production, and by Xavier Rigault and Marc-Antoine Robert for 2.4.7 Films, Ogre is being co-produced by Belgian outfit Panache Productions, The Jokers (which will distribute the movie in French theatres) and Playtime (which is overseeing the international sales). Having been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature has also secured backing from the CNC (via its genre-film-specific support scheme), from the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, and from the Cinécap and Cinéaxe Soficas. It is worth noting that the cinematography has been entrusted to Pénélope Pourriat.
